What Steps Build the Re-Ply™ System for Single Ply Roofs?

The single ply Re-Ply™ process is designed to restore an eligible roof by cleaning the existing surface, repairing weak areas, reinforcing seams, and building a fluid-applied membrane over the roof. Each stage helps prepare the roof for ASTEC Base Sealer #2000 for Rubber and the Re-Ply™ finish layers that complete the waterproof surface.

A typical single-ply Re-Ply™ process includes these stages:

1. Prepare Surface Pressure wash the old roof surface to eliminate loose material, repair substrate, blisters, and cracks as needed. Clean all rubber surfaces with EPDM rinseable primer.

2. Seal Seams Reinforce all roof, vent, duct, and flashing seams and laps with high tensile strength fabric or BBT Butyl-back tape. Saturate with ASTEC Base Sealer #2000.

3. Prime and Seal Surface Flow on one or two layers of ASTEC Base sealer #2000 for Rubber. This bonding sealer applies as a fluid, filling all cracks, and curing as a seamless, pliable membrane over the entire roof.

4. Apply Core Layer Flow on the first layer of ASTEC Re-Ply #2000 Finish Layer. It will bond with the ASTEC Re-Ply Base Sealer #2000 and provide a monolithic core base for the final surface.

5. Apply Surface Layer Flow on the final ASTEC Re-Ply # 2000 Finish layer. The new surface will be a seamless, titanium white ply of a highly reflective roofing that is waterproof, pliable, and virtually impervious to airborne corrosives over years of hostile environmental conditions.

This is a typical system for single-ply roofs. Products and procedures may vary by roof type and condition. Only ASTEC detailed specifications will be approved on any ASTEC roofing project.

What Is the Core Layer in the Re-Ply™ System?

The core layer is the first layer of ASTEC Re-Ply #2000 Finish applied over the sealed roof surface. It bonds with the ASTEC Re-Ply Base Sealer #2000 and helps build the main body of the restored membrane.

This layer gives the system more continuity before the final surface is applied. It helps connect the prepared roof, reinforced areas, and base sealer into a monolithic core that supports waterproofing performance.

How Can Single Ply Roof Restoration Help Reduce Water Entry?

Single ply roofs often allow water in where the membrane has worn or opened around vents and flashings. These weak points can let moisture move into the roof system before the larger surface looks fully failed.

Restoration helps reduce water entry by treating those vulnerable areas before the full roof surface is sealed. With reinforced seams and fluid-applied layers, we can help create a more continuous waterproof surface over the existing roof.

How Does Re-Ply™ Help Preserve an Existing Single-Ply Roof?

A single-ply roof may still have serviceable value even when the surface shows age, seam wear, or minor damage. Moving straight to replacement can remove a roof that may still qualify for and benefit from restoration.

Re-Ply™ helps preserve the existing roof by building protection over the prepared membrane and giving the roof a renewed waterproof surface.

When Is Re-Ply™ Not the Right Fit for a Single-Ply Roof?

Re-Ply™ may not be the right fit when the existing roof has conditions that limit restoration performance. If the membrane, substrate, or insulation has deeper problems, coating over the surface won’t address the underlying issue.

Re-Ply™ may not be suitable when:

• The roof has trapped moisture: Wet insulation or hidden moisture can limit restoration performance
• The membrane is no longer stable: Loose or badly deteriorated areas may need more than surface restoration
• Drainage problems are severe: Persistent ponding can affect how the system performs over time
• Damage is too widespread: Extensive substrate failure may make replacement the better path
• Adhesion is not reliable: The surface must be able to receive the approved ASTEC system
